Summary

The Cleveland Launcher XL Halo irons are designed with technology that can benefit beginners and high handicap golfers. The wide soles of the irons push the weight down low, which can help get the ball up in the air more efficiently.

The oversized hybrid-style irons feature a hollow body design, allowing weight to be positioned where it is most needed for optimal performance. The moment of inertia has been increased by 17 percent, which helps to reduce the effects of mis-hits and provides more forgiveness.

The irons also feature a black cavity fill, reducing visual distraction, and beveled edges with a soft leading edge provide additional forgiveness.

But the real question is, do these design features translate to improved performance on the golf course? Check out my unbiased review of the Cleveland Launcher XL Halo irons to determine if these clubs provide the distance and performance you want.

Is Cleveland Launcher XL Halo Irons Worth It?

The Cleveland Launcher XL Halo Irons are a set of game-improvement irons designed for golfers looking to improve their game. They offer improved forgiveness, distance, and consistency and are suitable for high-handicap golfers.

However, it’s important to note that every golfer’s swing is different, so it’s always best to try them out before purchasing to ensure they’re the right fit for your game.

My experience review with Cleveland Launcher XL Halo Irons

During my interactions with fellow golfers on the course, the most frequently discussed topic is usually golf clubs. During one of these conversations, I first heard about the Cleveland Launcher XL Halo irons, which were reputed to provide assistance from the fairway. Intrigued by this, I decided to try them out and see for myself.

When I first saw these irons, I was not keen on their looks. However, as a golfer who is more inclined towards the performance of clubs rather than their looks, I decided to look past that aspect and try them out.

When I took my first shot with these irons, I noticed that they offered a satisfying feel and sound. The irons feature a high-strength steel face that provides a crisp, responsive feel at impact.

After a few swings with them, it was clear that they were designed with a good combination of technologies that provide maximum forgiveness, a considerable distance, and control on every shot.

The Cleveland Launcher XL Halo Irons are versatile in playing different types of shots. The irons feature a progressive shaping design, which means that each club in the set is optimized for a specific shot type.

The shorter irons have a more traditional blade-like shape, making them ideal for shots that require precision and control. The long irons have a larger, forgiving head, making them perfect for long shots as well as for those shots where accuracy is not as critical.

The Cleveland Launcher XL Halo Irons also feature a V-shaped sole that promotes better turf interaction and improved shot-making. This design makes it easier to hit a variety of shots from different lies and makes it easier to get the ball airborne quickly.

My test stats

As someone who generally relies on a pitching wedge, 7 iron, and 4 iron on the golf course, I tested the Cleveland Launcher XL Halo irons in a simulator and launch monitor room.

With my go-to clubs by my side, I was ready to see how these irons stacked against my usual choices.

ParameterPitching wedge7 iron4 iron
Ball speed (mph)92.1 113.5125.2
Launch Angle (degrees)26.518.312.5
Back Spin (rpm)796852203028
Side Angle (degrees)1.63.83.7
Carry Distance (yards)118164193
Total Distance (yards)120 173205

I found the pitching wedge noteworthy in terms of providing reasonable distance and stopping power. It had a decent carry and total distance that would be suitable for various situations on the course.

The 7 iron was also a standout, with good ball speed, launch angle, and backspin rate. The combination of these factors resulted in the right ball flight and stopping power I desired. However, I did notice a slight inconsistency in accuracy, as indicated by the side angle of 3.8 degrees.

Lastly, I found that the 4 iron was the longest iron in the bag, and it consistently provided good ball speed, launch angle, backspin rate, and reasonable side angle. The carry and total distances were both noteworthy, indicating good distance and ball flight.

Overall, the Cleveland Launcher XL Halo irons demonstrated good performance during my testing. They offer consistent ball flight and distance, with each iron having its own strengths and weaknesses. These irons are a suitable option for golfers seeking assistance from the fairway.

In terms of performance factors

These iron sets have the highest moment of inertia of any Cleveland golf hybrid iron and are made to help golfers improve their swings and achieve better results. Let us take a closer look at how these irons perform in terms of each factor:

1. Distance (Score – 4.6/5)

Rating

The Cleveland Launcher XL Halo Irons are built to deliver noteworthy distance. They have a steel face that flexes when it hits the ball, resulting in a powerful transfer of energy. With a low center of gravity, they produce a high launch angle and low spin, leading to longer and straighter shots.

2. Forgiveness (Score – 4.9/5)

Rating

The Cleveland Launcher XL Halo Irons are forgiving and suitable for high handicappers. They have a perimeter weighting system that distributes weight to the outer edges of the clubhead, increasing their moment of inertia.

This design feature makes the irons more forgiving on off-center hits, leading to greater consistency, even on mishits.

3. Playability / Trajectory (Score – 4.7/5)

Rating

The Cleveland Launcher XL Halo Irons are designed for playability and optimal trajectory. Their progressive design ensures that each club in the set is optimized for its specific role.

The short irons have a compact shape for precision and control, while the longer irons have a more forgiving design that adds distance. Additionally, the irons have a variable face thickness that helps optimize spin and launch angle, ensuring a consistent trajectory.

4. Sound and Feel (Score – 4.8/5)

Rating

The Cleveland Launcher XL Halo Irons offer a pleasing sound and feel when striking the ball. Their cavity-back design helps to minimize vibrations, leading to a soft and muted feel.

Golfers can also expect a crisp and satisfying sound upon impact, providing immediate feedback on the quality of their shots.

5. Look (Score – 4/5)

Rating

The Cleveland Launcher XL Halo Irons have a clean and simple look with a chrome finish. Their thin topline and minimal offset give them a more traditional appearance. However, this design may not appeal to all golfers.

Features and benefits of Cleveland Launcher XL Halo Irons

By examining each contributing factor, we can assess the overall performance of the Cleveland Launcher XL Halo Irons:

1. Rail to V-Shaped Sole Design

The Cleveland Launcher XL Halo Irons are a set of golf clubs that have a special design on their soles to help golfers play more smoothly. The rail to V-shaped sole design prevents the clubhead from digging into the ground, making it easier to hit the ball cleanly.

The design of the sole changes from having three rails in the longer irons to a V-shape in the short irons and then a three-tiered sole on the Dual and Sand wedges.

2. MainFrame Variable Face Technology

The Cleveland Launcher XL Halo Irons have a cool feature called MainFrame Variable Face Technology.

This makes the clubface have different thicknesses in different places, which makes the ball go faster and spin better. It helps golfers hit the ball further and more accurately, even if they don’t hit it perfectly in the middle of the clubface.

3. Action Mass CB

The Cleveland Launcher XL Halo Irons have a special feature called Action Mass CB. This feature helps to improve the performance and stability of the club. The weight in the clubhead is distributed strategically to increase forgiveness and consistency when hitting the ball off-center. This is done by increasing the moment of inertia.

4. Hibore Crown Step

The Hibore Crown Step is a special design element in golf clubheads that makes them lighter at the top. This helps lower the club’s center of gravity, which makes it easier to hit the ball high in the air with less spin. It also makes it easier to hit the ball accurately, as the sweet spot is larger.

5. Improved Turf Interaction

The Cleveland Launcher XL Halo Irons are golf clubs that have been designed to improve a player’s interaction with the turf. They feature a rail to V-shaped sole design and Hibore Crown Step, which work together to create a smooth and consistent impact with the ground.

This design helps golfers hit shots more cleanly and accurately while also making their swings more comfortable and reducing the risk of injury and fatigue over time.
