I. Is Cleveland Launcher CBX Irons worth it?

The Cleveland new launcher CBX irons are a popular choice among golfers due to their ability to provide both distance and accuracy. They are especially beneficial for high-handicap players who desire a forgiving iron to achieve longer, straighter shots and players struggling with consistency in their iron play.

The irons’ design helps to minimize the impact of mishits, and their competitive pricing offers a good balance of performance and affordability compared to other irons in their class.

If you are a high-handicap golfer searching for a forgiving iron to enhance your game, the Cleveland Launcher CBX irons are worth considering.

II. My experience review with Cleveland Launcher CBX Irons

At first glance, I must admit these clubs felt big and bulky, particularly the lower irons (4, 5 and 6). They appeared stout, almost resembling hybrids. However, I didn’t want to pass judgment solely based on their appearance without putting them to the test. So, I proceeded to evaluate their performance firsthand.

I discovered that the cavity back design and perimeter weighting contributed to a forgiving and consistent experience, even when I didn’t strike the ball dead center. Moreover, the V-shaped sole design proved advantageous for interacting with the turf, enabling me to execute clean shots from challenging lies.

My Test Stats

To further analyze how the Cleveland Launcher CBX irons perform, I conducted a test session in a simulator room with a launch monitor. I usually carry 6-iron and 8-iron in my bag, so this is the combination that I tested.

Parameters6 iron8 iron
Ball speed130.2 mph113.8 mph
Launch angle15.8 degrees20.6 degrees
Side angle1.3 degrees R1.7 degrees R
Backspin4130 rpm6430 rpm
Peak height32 yards37 yards
Carry distance200 yards172 yards
Total distance 214 yards179 yards

So, I first tested Cleveland Launcher CBX 6-iron, and I was able to generate a ball speed of 130.2 mph and a launch angle of 15.8 degrees. The club’s added forgiveness allowed a slight side angle of 1.3 degrees to the right without affecting the shot’s placement.

The backspin rate of 4130 rpm allowed for a quick stop upon landing, and the peak height of 32 yards provided ample height to clear any obstacles. The 6-iron carried the ball 200 yards and had a total distance of 214 yards.

Moving on to the 8 iron,  I achieved a ball speed of 113.8 mph and a launch angle of 20.6 degrees. The higher launch angle allowed for the ball to land softly on the green. Despite a slight side angle of 1.7 degrees to the right, the shot ended up in a good position.

The backspin rate of 6430 rpm allowed the ball to stop almost instantly upon landing and the peak height of 37 yards allowed for easy clearance of obstacles. The 8-iron carried the ball 172 yards and had a total distance of 179 yards.

Overall, I found the Cleveland Launcher CBX Irons to be a beneficial addition to my golf bag. The technology allowed me to generate more power and accuracy with each shot. The forgiveness and backspin rate was good, helping me to land the ball where I wanted it.
