Titleist Pro V1 and V1x golf balls experience review

I personally love the aspect of selecting the perfect golf ball in the game of golf. It can truly make a difference in your performance.

I remember when I first learned about certain types of balls, I was intrigued and did my own research on them. However, I’ve come to realize that simply researching isn’t enough, it’s important to test them out for yourself and see the results on the course.

So, I bought two packs of Titleist golf balls, one with Pro V1 balls and the other with Pro V1x balls. I tested both balls on a 9-hole course and with the help of a simulator. I noted the results based on the performance of balls with Putters, PW, 7-Irons, and Driver.

I got myself packs of Titleist Pro V1 and V1x balls. two packs of Titleist golf balls – one containing Pro V1 balls and the other containing Pro V1x balls.

Subsequently, I evaluated the performance of both balls on a 9-hole course as well as using a simulator. The results were recorded based on the performance of the balls with Putters, PW, 7-Irons, and Driver.

Indoor Performance

As an avid golfer, I have extensively tested and evaluated various golf balls on the market.

My analysis of the Pro V1 and Pro V1x golf balls revealed that the Pro V1x exhibited superior performance with the driver. The Pro V1x demonstrated an average increase in carry distance of 2-3 yards, which is a significant advantage for approach shots.

The spin rates for both balls were comparable, but the higher flight of 74 feet in the Pro V1x resulted in a greater carry distance. In contrast, the Pro V1 displayed a lower ball flight of 71 feet and spin rate, which decreased overall distance.

My Test Stats of Driver

ParametersPro V1 Pro V1x
Ball Speed154.9 mph158.9 mph
Launch Angle15.7 degrees13.4 degrees
Back Spin1880 rpm1837 rpm
Side Angle0.7 degrees0.6 degrees
Carry Distance 282 yards284 yards
Total Distance302 yards305 yards

In my testing, I noticed that Pro v1x performed better with the driver. I attribute its success to the perfect blend of high launch and low spin, which can be seen in its trajectory.

Thus, I know I can count on this ball to give me a consistent, high-flying shot that greatly increases my distance.

My Test Stats of 7-Iron

ParametersPro V1 Pro V1x
Ball Speed124.2 mph124.4 mph
Launch Angle19.0 degrees13.4 degrees
Back Spin6146 rpm6231 rpm
Side Angle0.9 degrees0.5 degrees
Carry Distance 176 yards176 yards
Total Distance179 yards180 yards

After putting both the Pro V1 and Pro V1x golf balls through a series of tests with my 7-iron, I found that they almost have the same carry distance. But, I was impressed by the elevated ball flight of Pro V1x.

My tests showed that I could hit the Pro V1x ball 4 to 6 feet higher than the Pro V1 ball. This can make a big difference on the golf course.

Of course, I understand that individual results may vary based on one’s swing mechanics and ball-striking ability. Still, in my experience, the Pro V1x has proven to be a valuable asset for maximizing distance.

Overall, my indoor testing showed that the biggest factor in losing yardage was the lack of height from the Pro V1. The ball speed and spin rate differences between the two balls were pretty similar, but the trajectory made the biggest impact.

The Pro V1x gave me the perfect combination of greater distance and low spin with the driver.

Outdoor Performance

Both balls are of very high quality, and the natural differences between shots on the course may be more important than any differences seen on the simulator.

But on the golf course, I think “feel” is the most important thing about golf balls. Because that’s what makes each golf ball different. You can get a general idea of how it feels by chipping, pitching, or putting. You can even use your fingernail to find out how it feels.

Note: You can’t feel the golf ball off a drive when it’s hitting it over 100 miles per hour or at any speed.

The time I started testing the two balls – Pro V1 and Pro V1x. I found the main difference was that Pro V1x is a bit firm and doesn’t spin as much as Pro V1.

While putting, I found that the Pro V1x afforded me improved accuracy and control of pace, exemplified by holing it from three lengths that are small, medium, and longer putts.

To begin, I used a 7 iron from 100 yards on the par 3 and struck both balls towards a front flag location. The Pro V1 landed approximately 30 feet short of the flag, displaying a desirable soft feel upon impact. In contrast, the Pro V1x exhibited a notably higher ball flight and stopped approximately 15 feet left of the hole, having pitched pin high.

As I continued playing through the following holes, I couldn’t notice any significant variations in my long game. It can be quite challenging to consistently distinguish an approximate difference of 5 yards in carry on the course, particularly when the ground is firm and there is ample roll on the links fairways.

Upon utilizing my irons, I also observed that on several instances, the trajectory of the ball appeared to be disrupted, despite the absence of wind. The Pro V1 did not seem to reach pin high, while the Pro V1x displayed a longer air time.

With regards to the long game, the feel between the two balls did not seem vastly dissimilar, but when chipping and putting around the greens, the Pro V1 did exhibit a softer feel. Overall, these two balls are closer in feel than ever before.

In terms of performance factors

As per my experience and test, I can say that these balls have everything you could want in a golf ball. Some of the factors that can be important are mentioned below:

1. Distance and Accuracy (Grade A)

The Pro V1 golf ball has been designed to maximize distance for most golfers. Whether you’re a long hitter or someone who prefers accuracy over power, these Titleist balls will help you get the most out of your game.

When we compared the Pro V1 with the Pro V1x  based on distance and flight, Pro V1x had higher flight than V1.

2. Spin and High Trajectory (Grade B+)

The soft Urethane cover, high-flex layer, and 2.0 ZG Process solid core and dual core of Pro V1 and Pro V1x work together to provide optimized spin control on all shots, from tee to green, in the short game.

But, when I tried them out to check out the spin, we found that the Pro V1 has a mid spin, whereas the Pro V1x has a high spin in the long game. This allows you to maintain control and enhances the long-game spin of your ball, even in windy conditions.

3. Feel (Grade A)

Players can experience improved precision and tactile feedback around the greens, thanks to the club’s construction and soft urethane cover. But, when we played with it, we definitely felt that the softer covering gives your short game a smoother feel in both Pro V1s. Moreover, this feature makes it easier to execute delicate shots and avoid costly mistakes.

Titleist Pro V1 and Pro V1x specifications

The new 2021 model, Pro V1, delivers the greatest combination of spin, speed, and feel in the game, whereas the Pro V1x offers fast, high flight and provides spin when and where the golfer needs it.

1. Construction

2. New, Softer Urethane Elastomer Cover

The Pro V1 and Pro V1x have a urethane elastomer cover, which is the softest cover formulation ever used. It is designed to provide long-game spin control and penetrating trajectory. This layer also offers exceptional durability, which is essential for serious golfers who play frequently.

The cast urethane elastomer cover also delivers a firmer feel and shot-stopping control on approach shots. This means that it increases greenside spin and provides brilliant drop-and-stop increased short-game control.

3. 2.0 ZG Process Core

The Pro V1 has a 2.0 ZG process solid core, whereas the Pro V1x has a dual core that provides enhanced launch conditions off the tee for added distance. These golf balls have a unique aerodynamic design providing long-distance and penetrating flight.

4. Faster High Flex Casing Layer

This type of layer provides superior aerodynamics and ball flight consistency in all conditions. The high-flex ionomeric casing layer adds speed and lowers long-game spin. The new highly-resilient, high-speed ionomer was initially developed for and validated by Pro V1x Left Dash.

5. New Spherically tiled Tetrahedral Dimple Designs

Speaking in terms of the Pro V1’s dimple patterns, these balls are designed using cutting-edge computer modeling techniques to provide optimal ball flight in all conditions. Furthermore, the dimples are shallower than traditional dimples to provide long-game spin for added greenside spin control.

The dimple design layout for Titleist Pro V1 features 388 spherically tiled tetrahedral Dimple designs and 348 for Titleist Pro V1x. Meanwhile, the Pro V1 maintains its penetrating trajectory, and the Pro V1x flies higher than the prior generation, that is, Pro V1.

Titleist Pro V1 and V1x features and lowdown

These balls offer professional golfers a host of features and benefits that help them take their game to the next level. Some of these critical features and lowdown include exceptional distance, superior spin, exceptional shot-stopping control, enhanced launch conditions off the tee, and superior aerodynamics.

Aerodynamic package

Since 2011, the new dimple designs on the Pro V1 and Pro V1x have been the result of Titleist’s unparalleled commitment to understanding and improving the flight of the golf balls without affecting any of the features.

The Dimple technology in Titleist Pro V1 provides longer and more consistent shots. Moreover, this design also helps to reduce drag and produce a more consistent flight trajectory.

Alternative for Titleist Pro V1 and Pro V1x

Looking for a Titleist Pro V1 or Pro V1x alternative? There are plenty of other great golf balls on the market that can offer you similar performance benefits.

Here are a few alternatives that you can consider:-

TaylorMade TP5 and TP5 x

TaylorMade’s latest improvements in golf balls are its five-layer TP5 and TP5x. The design of the ball allows less drag at takeoff but more lift as it reaches the apex of its flight, giving it a longer descent.

There are five layers to the ball, with the fourth layer being resilient and located just under the cast urethane cover; this helps improve initial velocity. This is a perfect alternative for Titleist as it provides a lower compression rate and two more added layers.

Callaway Chrome Soft and Soft X

The Callaway Chrome Soft golf ball features Dual SoftFast cores infused with graphene to take your game to the next level. The bigger core generates a high launch and swing rate.

Blended with an ionomer, the urethane cover of these golf balls amplifies the ball’s momentum on full shots and better spin control. It also has an aerodynamic design that reduces drag for greater overall distance and an optimized high-rise flight.  Moreover, Titleist has a lower swing rate in the long game when compared to Chrome soft.

Bridgestone Tour B XS and X

These Bridgestone balls focus on two swing-speed categories (more than and less than 105 mph). These balls resemble closest to Titleist Pro V1x and V1, but when compared based on compression rate, they have a lower compression rate than Titleist. Moreover, this ball has a swing speed of over 105 MPH, and you can even use it for a less short-game spin.
