I. Is Scotty Cameron Newport 2 putter worth it? 

The Super Select Newport 2 brings a fresh look with new graphics and an innovative textured Pistonlini Plus grip. It also includes a stylish head cover, which adds to its appeal. 

Now, talking about this putter in my hand, it was quite easy to obtain precise distances in short putts. The craftsmanship and materials are of high quality, providing a satisfying feel during every stroke. 

With this putter, the ball rolls smoothly off the highly consistent putter face, ensuring control and accuracy on the greens.

This putter is particularly beneficial for high handicappers, as its design encourages a steady and fluid stroke, significantly enhancing the overall putting experience. However, while the performance is great, the cost could be a decisive factor for some buyers.

II. My Experience with Scotty Cameron Newport 2 Putter

I was on the hunt for a putter to improve my short putt game, and the Scotty Cameron Newport 2 putter’s name kept coming up. So, I decided to give it a shot. 

The pro shop attendant recommended trying this putter with Titleist golf balls for optimal performance. Following the advice, I used a Titleist Pro V1 golf ball. As I began my putting session, I immediately noticed the clean, sweet, and undeniably satisfying sound when the ball met the clubface.

The slimmer grip and the thoughtful weight distribution to the outer edges of the putter provided good control and stability. 

With the newly designed clubface, I noticed that the ball comes off just a bit quicker, giving me that much-needed boost of confidence on the greens. Even with occasional off-centered strikes, I couldn’t help but appreciate the extra steadiness, particularly its impact on increasing the MOI.

When lining up a dead-straight 10-foot putt, precision was crucial. During my time with this putter, I observed a slight right tendency, which means the aim needs to be spot-on. Even the slightest deviation can result in a missed putt.

The Scotty Cameron Newport 2 putter is a solid choice for golfers looking for control, stability, and that satisfying feel. While the right tendency requires precision, its overall performance makes it a valuable addition to any golfer’s bag.

To further understand the performance of the Newport 2 putter, I tested it in an indoor setting with a simulator and launch monitor.

The Scotty Cameron Newport 2 putter seemed to work in harmony with my stroke. It provided just the right amount of force to the ball, resulting in a gentle 4.5 mph ball speed. This control allowed me to maintain precision in my short game.

With a launch spin of 135 rpm, I could feel the putter imparting that perfect amount of backspin to get the ball rolling smoothly. The roll spin and the initial pace it contributed were crucial for me to maintain a consistent line, particularly on those important short putts.

The putter’s ability to send the ball off was evident as I observed a convenient 1′ 5″ feet to the start of the roll, allowing me to easily control the direction and pace of the ball. 

All these elements came together to provide an overall total distance of 8’9” ft that I found truly satisfying. 

III. Performance Factors

Let’s take a closer look at the performance factors of the Scotty Cameron Newport 2 Putter: 

1. Distance control – 9 /10

The distance control of the Newport 2 putter is pretty good. Its larger cavity dots on the back of the clubface distribute less weight in the center and more towards the edges. So, while lining up those short putts, I achieved a nice balance and precision. 

This putter also does a good job of delivering a solid strike with consistency on the greens. While playing, the ball speed remained consistently stable, making it a valuable tool for handling those challenging long-distance putts. 

However, I noticed a slight right tendency on straight 10-foot putts demanding complete precision and aim from me.

2. Forgiveness – 10/10

The Newport 2 stands out for its wide blade design, enhancing forgiveness. I particularly valued its forgiveness on off-center strikes, as it consistently minimized mis-hits with a tight dispersion, ensuring a reliable ball path.

Unlike traditional blade putters, the Newport 2 features an innovative design with slightly broader dimensions, making it a hybrid that falls between a blade and a mid-mallet. 

This unique design provided added stability without compromising the sleek aesthetics and control for which blade putters are renowned.

3. Performance – 9/10

This putter boasts Performance Balanced Weighting, facilitating balance and control in my putting stroke. The Newport 2 has customizable tungsten sole weights that ensured an even balance throughout my putting stroke and aided me in keeping the face square at impact.

Additionally, this putter resists twisting and turning, delivering a consistent roll every time. In a nutshell, this putter achieves balance and control and utilizes high MOI for enhanced performance.

4. Looks – 8/10

The Scotty Cameron putter’s clean and modern appearance was appealing to me. Its cavity boasts a distinctive trio of dots, but what captured my attention was the crimson circle—a refreshing departure from the typical paint.

On the neck, I discovered the logos “Cameron” and “Titleist” on opposite sides, with Scotty’s signature gracing the face, providing the finishing touch to the design. 

However, one potential downside of this putter could be the gooseback neck hosel, which may not be appreciated by all golfers.

5. Sound and Feel – 10/10 

The Super Select models have achieved an optimal balance when it comes to responsiveness and impact feedback. The Newport 2 putter’s feel is notably influenced by the type of golf ball used, which is an important consideration. I used the Titleist ball with this Putter, and it just felt right in my hand.

This innovative technology integrates the soft and well-regarded feel of previous models with precise feedback.

Additionally, the silver dots on the back of the face enhance the overall quality feel of the putter.

The Scotty Cameron Super Select Newport 2 reclaims its position as the standout flagship model with the most modern blade line. Its precise control, solid feel, and consistent performance make it a worthy choice for golfers looking to elevate their putting game. However, its higher price point might be a consideration for some.
